Potomac River Crisis Short article on “facts”

On January 19, 2026 a 72-inch, six foot diameter, or the Potomac Interceptor Sewer line, carrying raw waste from as far as Dullas Airport in Ashburn Virginia, “collapsed” emptying between 40 and 60 million gallons of raw sage a day between January 19 and January 26.  For just that time period, that is a minimum of 320 million gallons of raw sage and potentially up to 480 million gallons into the Potomac River near Lock 10.

While some sources say the burst has been contained, and diverted into the canal levy system, some sources say that the burst pipe has not been contained, and sewage is still flowing into the Potomac River.

It has now been 17 days of raw sewage flowing, so a minimum of 320 million gallons of raw sewage, and potentially up to between 680 million to 1 BILLION gallons of raw sewage in the Potomac River or C and O Canal Lock system.

DC Public Water says there is currently no threat to public drinking water, but this does not mitigate the absolute environmental catastrophe that has only just begun.

As a Washington DC native and local, I am beyond alarmed at the alomst zero coverage and misrepresentation of the Public Heath Threat.

DC Water is allegedly to blame, but there are no DC Public Health Officials that will go one record.

E Coli testing done over a week ago found levels of contamination 12000 times higher than normal at this time of year.

There have been no new test numbers released within the last 6 days.

Residents who do not speak English are at a severe disadvantage and may not be aware of the grave threat posed to their health.

There are no experts that will go on the record and speak to this environmental catastrophe.

The local public, national public and global public are largely unaware to the danger to their and their children’s health.

There is no solution in sight and residents want to know why this crisis is being suppressed.
